3-3-2 Rule
3-3-2 is a physical exam technique used to determine a potentially difficult airway. To indicate enough space for intubation, 3 of the patient’s own fingers can be placed between the incisors (incisor distance), 3 fingers along the floor of the mandible between the mentum and the hyoid bone (hyoid-mental distance), and 2 fingers in the superior laryngeal notch (thyroid-hyoid distance).
